What Is Proctortrack?
ProctorTrack is an online software as a service that collects various environmental, biometric, and personal data via a student’s computer system, webcam, and microphone while the student takes an examination in a private, secured location.
Why Use Proctortrack?
Rowan University faculty may use Proctortrack within their online, hybrid, or eLearning Enhanced courses for two primary reasons: (1) to help ensure the integrity of the online class examination and assessment process, and (2) to verify that the identity of the student taking an exam is in fact the same person who is registered and enrolled the course. Maintaining integrity in assessment is vital to the University's ability to assure that the credentials it awards to its students are built on a solid assessment foundation and issued to the individuals who have verifiably earned it.
Examination Integrity Policy
Rowan University has a license agreement with Verificient™ Technologies for their automated Examination Integrity Software system called Proctortrack™. Proctortrack is an online software as a service that collects various environmental, biometric, and personal data via a student’s computer system, webcam, and microphone while the student takes an examination in a private, secured location. The system is automated such as that students are not monitored in real time by a human proctor. It employs a variety of security protocols, such as biometric facial recognition and voice monitoring, for the purpose of student identity verification throughout the examination. Other processes, including computer operating system monitoring, computer screen capture, and environment video scans, are employed to detect any actions that could be potentially considered academic integrity violations. Data collected by the system during the examination is securely transmitted, stored, and managed to ensure student privacy is maintained in compliance with FERPA regulations. For more information about Verificient’s privacy policies, visit http://www.proctortrack.com/getting-started-1/. The use of Proctortrack is governed by Rowan University’s Verification of Student Identity Policy and Academic Integrity Policy.
Any incidents detected by the Proctortrack system during a given examination are reviewed by the course section instructor and handled in accordance with the Rowan University Academic Integrity Policy. Any student who takes exception with the use of the Examination Integrity Software (Proctortrack) system may appeal to the course instructor for an alternative examination integrity option. Any additional examination integrity policies or requirements for a specific course are stated elsewhere in the course syllabus.
